The Kilgore Half Marathon
Race Day Weather
Cold conditions, headwinds early
Runners will face a consistent 37°F throughout the race, with wind gusts up to 22 mph creating headwinds in the first and fourth miles. Humidity levels at 70% may feel uncomfortable, prompting a conservative start to maintain energy. Adjust pacing early on to combat the headwinds, especially in the exposed sections, while the tailwind in Mile 6 can be advantageous.

Race Info
The Kilgore Half Marathon and 10K runs every Christmas Eve in south Oklahoma City, starting at 6:30 AM near Earlywine Park. The tradition began in 2009 when a deployed service member ran a half marathon overseas rather than miss the holiday at home; friends turned it into a group run the following year with 24 participants. Registration is free and optional, and runners are asked to bring a food dish to share. The race is also known locally as the Run for the Deployed and honors service members stationed away from home.
