The Essentia Health Dick Beardsley Races return to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on Saturday, September 12, 2026, the event's 31st year. The race honors Dick Beardsley, the Minnesota runner who finished second to Alberto Salazar in the 1982 Boston Marathon's "Duel in the Sun." Runners choose the half marathon, 10K, or Andy Beardsley Memorial 5K, all starting and finishing at Peoples Park, with a Youth Run later that morning. Beardsley returns each year to speak at the Friday night pasta supper and greet finishers at the line. Source
