With light winds at 6 mph from the WSW, conditions will be generally favorable, though a headwind from miles 13 to 21 will challenge endurance. Runners should consider starting conservatively and adjusting their pace during the climbs, particularly from mile 7 to 9 and 19 to 21, to conserve energy for the latter half.

The Columbia Gorge Marathon is held in mid-October in Hood River, Oregon, along the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. Marathon runners are bused to the Mark O. Hatfield West trailhead and run the fully paved route back to the Hood River Events Site, with about 1,882 feet of climbing and a steepest grade of 5%. The half marathon is an out-and-back on the same corridor and includes walker and Dog Leg divisions. A Saturday 8K and a kids' 1K run alongside the Sunday races. Source
